Covering my angst with the soothing wisdom from my mother's prayer journals

Be Alert

Monday I went to a home supply store to get a dispenser for the new faucet my hubby was installing.  On the way back home I stopped at a red light behind a white truck carrying a brand new gas grill.  I didn’t see any ropes securing it to the truck.

I once had a dream that I was behind a truck that was carrying timber.  In the dream, the logs slipped off the truck and fell through my windshield.  Since that dream, I try to avoid trucks with open beds carrying any kind of cargo, especially timber.

Well anyway.  When the green turn arrow came on, the truck took the inside lane and I thought, “I don’t want to be behind this guy.” I pulled to the right lane and was right beside him when the gas grill tipped over the tailgate and went crashing onto the street.  Had I stayed behind the truck, the huge grill would have landed on the hood of my car.

I am not physic but I try to pay attention.  Those dreams may be caused by spicy food but maybe not.   If I am alert to His prompting, maybe His job is a little easier.

My husband pays attention.  He can see possible danger and cautions the kids and grandkids. He is not always popular, but he has prevented many a mishap.

Mother wrote in her journal, “The person who has no expectations and therefore fails to be on the alert will receive little help.  Watch for God in the events of your life. (Streams in the Desert)  He is the God of limitless resources – the only limit comes from us.  Our requests, our thoughts and our prayers are too low”.

There are many times in my life when I have ignored warnings in my spirit and lived with the consequences.   Maybe, as Mother wrote, I didn’t expect Him to help.  I’m so glad I didn’t do that on Monday or I would still be picking glass out of my face!

Grateful for so many things, especially the peace He gives and the opportunity to tell it to my kids, grandkids and anyone else who wants to listen. Many read my first book In My Mother's Words, and I have recently published my second book, Heart Whispers from the Old Testament. Both are the result of the prayer journals my mother gifted me her last Christmas. Those journals were full of the wisdom of a Faith Walker and had to be shared.

  1. There are no coincidences. To learn to wisdom from a dream is the works of God. Good for you for being alert to the shortcomings of others. Putting our faith in others is a short cut to follyland! Wise words, warnings, and post.

  2. Not long after moving to Jackson I noticed that people were running red lights, they simply did not stop when the light turned yellow. For several years this continued (before they added the cameras), so that when our daughter and her husband and baby moved to Jackson I immediately warned her of this. The very day I warned her, she was approaching the light at Old Humboldt Road and the 45 Bypass North, the light turned green and she said my warning came to mind. She stopped, eventhough it was green and immediately a loaded dump truck ran through the red light. I thank God for giving me that warning that day and for my precious daughter and grandson’s safety. I believe with all my heart that God spoke this warning to me that day and I praise Him for it!
